Hello! My name is Jack, and I am an English Literature graduate from Oxford University. I grew up in West London, studying at the great character builder of a school that is Holland Park Comprehensive, and then set sail for the sunny shores of South Wales when I was 16. Nurtured by ambitious dreams of becoming the hottest surfer in Swansea (tragically never realised), I spent three years cultivating interests in such things as drama, beach cleaning, origami, basketball and Frisbee throwing. It was a great place to finish my schooling and gain the courage to front a local funk band, dubious in talent but energetic nonetheless. I have also been very lucky throughout this time to work with some fantastic young people. I have mentored children with literacy and learning difficulties, tutored up to degree standard, and gained many laughs while working at youth clubs due to my shameful ineptitude on a skateboard.

My four years at University were action-packed, but I found time between studies to get involved in a veritable smorgasbord of sports and artistic endeavours. Among the more eclectic were battle-training sessions with The Wychwood Warriors, weekly meditation classes with Burmese monks, bizarre forums in which we aimed to come up with new ways of raising awareness of ‘green’ issues, and Shakespearean theatre tours of Japan and ex-soviet Georgia. I just about managed to pay the bills in this time by working on building sites and giving the odd piano lesson, but will always be most grateful for the academic education I managed to pick up along the way.

My near-future goals include studying for a PGCE in Primary teaching. For now though, I am just happy to be getting back to London, revisiting the young characters I’ve known since toddler-hood, and getting up-to-date with some of the more surprising schoolyard trends. While I have been affectionately referred to as something of a ‘cheeky chappy’, I take my work with children extremely seriously. Through hard work and resilience, patience and understanding, I aim to fulfil any role needed of me.
